HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
2020 Portfolio
JAY FRANKLIN
NSCC HRM Grad 2019
My interest in Human Resources was initially piqued by my Honours Thesis supervisor at Acadia University, when discussing furthering my education after graduating with a BScH in Psychology. I wanted to continue to work with people, but apply my knowledge to a more corporate setting. I had heard great things about the NSCC Human Resource Management program, and its instructor Susan Thompson-Graham, and decided to apply.

My time in the HRM program helped me develop many new skills, both directly and indirectly related to the course outcomes. In-class units such as Policy & Program Development, Recruitment, and Selection & Retention introduced me to new content and showed me how our classroom learning could apply to results in the business world. The overlapping group projects helped develop my interpersonal and group management skills, while the fast paced individual assignments with quick turnaround times and hard deadlines ensured that I was also managing my own time effectively.

Overall, I was able to learn many new skills while also honing existing ones, to become a competent young professional entering into the workforce. I am excited to continue learning throughout my career and apply the knowledge that NSCC Ivany's Human Resource Management program has given me.
